Luxury bedding is chic, elegant, stylish… and a bit expensive. Those of us on a budget also want the look of luxury bedding without the price tag that generally comes with it. Fortunately, there is a way to get that look for less.
Luxury Bedding Idea #1 – Light Colors
One way to achieve the chic look of luxury bedding is to go with light colors, like white, eggshell, off-white, light blue and pale pink. Don’t use too many of these colors together, but you can use a few that compliment one another for depth. For instance, all white bedding with pale pink sheets and throw pillows will give the feel of a chic, uptown apartment bedroom, especially if your furniture is also light in color.
This is not to say that light colored bedding is not chic along with dark colored bedding. Light colored outer bedding looks fantastic with dark colored sheets, but the bedspread and comforter you choose should stay in the very light range to achieve this particular feel of luxury bedding. To picture it, think of hotel bedding in high-end hotels.
Luxury Bedding Idea #2 – Mixing Dark Solids and Prints
If light colors aren’t your thing, or if you have kids and/or pets, make your room look elegant by purchasing dark bedding. If you choose a comforter or bedspread with a print, pair it with solid, brighter colored sheets that will pop against the opposing darkness. Likewise, if you choose a solid colored, dark bedspread or comforter, pair it with bright colored sheets done in a print. For example, a solid black bedspread would look stylish with a bright flower-print sheet and pillowcase set.
Finding and Putting Together Luxury Bedding Inexpensively
Now that you have an idea of how to pair your sheets and outer bedding, look at ways to buy this bedding at a bargain. The first step is definitely an Internet search for “cheap luxury bedding.” If the thought of having to search for all the perfect pieces in separates makes your head spin, look into buying a bed in a bag.
A bed in a bag usually comes with a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, a bedspread or comforter and two pillowcases. For a more expensive bed in a bag set that has a more luxurious feel, you could get all of the above plus a bed skirt and pillow shams. Just remember when you purchase a bed in a bag the pieces all match, so you may not get the exact look you want without purchasing additional sheets, pillows and blankets. This may seem like a hassle, but it can be easy. Just apply the above rules when looking for extras. If the outer bedding has a pattern, sheets should remain solid, and vice-versa.
Since we’re talking extras, there is one last thing you need to know about getting the look of luxury bedding, and it’s probably the most important and easiest way to achieve the look you want. Pillow, pillows, pillows! Pillows make every bed look a little more upscale. The look of luxury bedrooms has pillows of varying sizes and shapes one-fourth of the way down the bed. Most luxury bedding sets (and bed in a bag sets) offer these accent pillows for additional cost. Do not think you have to stay within the set to make the look complete, though. If you find pillows that match and are cheaper, they will work just as well.
Luxury bedding can make any bedroom and furniture set look amazing. However, the effect it can have on the bank account of a frugal shopper can be terrible. If you want the look of luxury bedding, but don’t want to shell out the money for it, follow the above steps and you can have the luxury bedding you desire for a fraction of the cost.
